Font-free scrapbooking

Font-free scrapbooking

A font is described as a digital typeface. Font-free scrapbooking is creating a scrapbook without the use of the computer.

It is relatively easy to create a scrapbook page using downloaded and printed fonts, although it would be more personal and unique to write journal-style entries in your scrapbook. Some people aren’t confident enough with their penmanship, but with the popularity of scrapbooking, they can now choose from a wide selection of templates and stickers to create great-looking pages.

There are four basic items that a scrapbooker can use if he or she wishes do a font-free scrapbook.

1. Templates
You can choose from several variations of alphabet templates. They are available in different sizes, and you just have to select the most appropriate template for your scrapbook. Once you have selected a theme, you can layout the page first and trace the letters from the template using a pencil. After making sure you have created a good layout, you can then use a marker with archival quality ink to trace the letters permanently.

2. Stickers
There are several companies that produce letter stickers that you can use for the scrapbook. Some companies create sets of words for theme pages, such as “It’s my birthday,” or “Graduation day,” being the more common themes. All you have to do is select the design to match the theme in mind and stick the labels in the appropriate places. It should be mentioned though that not all companies produce acid-free stickers, so you need to check the label for the words”acid-free.”

3. Stamps
Stamps are created in a variety of designs. Most stamps also use archival-quality ink in different colors. You need to make sure that it is using acid-free paper for the photos and the stamp designs, because even if you are using scrapbook-safe ink, the paper may easily deteriorate and become brittle if it is not photo-safe or acid-free.

4. Die-cut designs
Similar to stickers, die-cut designs are glued onto the scrapbook page. There are several die-cut designs available online. The designs are printed on thin sheets of paper, plastic, or thin rubber matting, and you only have to cut the design and paste it onto the scrapbook page.

While these materials are easily available online and at various arts

Getting into magazine scrapbooking

Getting into magazine scrapbooking

Through the years, more and more styles and themes have emerged when it comes to scrapbooking. Since the craft doesn?t require formality, anything goes as long as the person enjoys the outcome of the product.

One of the most common themes when it comes to scrapbooking is magazine scrapbooking. This theme mimics the layout usually seen in different kinds of magazine in the market. Magazine scrapbooking involves the use of photos along with texts and embellishments scattered all throughout the scrapbook pages. Aside from the photos, texts, and chosen embellishments, magazine scrapbooking also includes the use of patterned pages with matching theme and colors.

SCRAPBOOKING 101

Before you start making your magazine scrapbook, you have to consider first what are the materials you will need. Here is a basic list of must have?s in order to be a scrapbooker.

1. Album. The first thing you need to consider is the place where you will place all your photos and embellishments?the album. You will need to decide what is the size of the album you want to work in order to determine the amount of materials you need to use in making the scrapbook. The usual size of scrapbook albums most scrapbookers use is 12 x 12 but it is up to you how big or small you would want your scrapbook to be. Aside from the size of the album, you will also need to consider the color you want to use and the pattern that will work for the theme of your chosen album.

2. Refill pages. Since you still don?t know how many pages you need for your album, it will really pay if you have refill pages of your chosen album. In the market, refill pages are usually sold in different sizes, so it is best if you pick up a couple of packs when buying album refills to ensure that you get the same quality of the of the album you already purchased.

3. A pair of sharp scissors. Scrapbooking requires a lot of cutting so it is best that you purchase a nice and high quality of sharp scissors. It is advisable if you use a pair of scissors that have very fine tips and is comfortable to hold or to use. Fine scissors might be a little more expensive compared to the ordinary pairs out there but this will ensure that you can use a pair scissors that are dedicated exclusively to your scrapbook.

4. Adhesives. In the market today, there are so many kinds and styles of adhesive that come in different sizes and styles. For beginners, it is best if you use an acid-free adhesive that is perfect for cardstock and photos. You might want to consider brands such as 3L Click ‘n’ Stick Mounting Squares, Herma Dotto Removable, and Herma Vario Wheel Dispenser.

5. A variety of cardstock, printed and specialty papers. Just like in choosing your scrapbook album, you need to select papers that will work well with the colors and the theme you have chosen. It will also pay if you choose colored papers, cardstock and accents to highlight your photos. (Tip: Try to buy papers and cardstocks at several local scrapbook stores because they sell individual sheets for each page.)

6. Several journal pens. It is best to use acid-free, permanent, pens that have fine tips for hand writing especially if you are doing magazine scrapbooking because you will need it for your journaling. You can buy pens that have different sizes.

Supplies You Need for Scrapbooking

Supplies You Need for Scrapbooking

You can create your own design of a scrapbook. First, you should be decided on what kind of scrapbook you would like to make. There are different sizes that are available in bookstores. The most common sizes are the 8×12 and the 12×12 inch formats. These formats are a little expensive but they have good qualities and can store a large amount of collections.

The 8×11 format works best since it can fit the inkjet printers that are generally of the same size. You can also use three ring binders even if the pages are in the process of printing. You may even place the pages similar to the format of a post type binder where you can create a double outline. The pages are attached closely so that they can be used as one outline. You may produce photographs on that format even if they aren’t separately placed on the printer.

There are more inexpensive scads that you can get in the 8×12 format. They can be used as school supplies, art, and office supplies as well. You can have more space from the pages if your option is to use three ring binders for your scrapbook. However, it is better to have high quality binders to help you compile the collections on the pages before arranging them in a post type binder.

It isn’t advisable to use a spiral non-removable scrapbook because you will be limited on one particular page and you may want to rearrange the pages. Some people are still buying this kind of format because they specialize on a specific compilation. This allows them to categorize the collections from each page.

There are also themed books that can exhibit those fun memories. Your children may enjoy looking at the pictures so they can see how styles and trends looked back then. Neighbors and friend who visit your home may have fun flipping through the pages rather than just looking at old photo albums.

It is always enjoyable to remember the moments in your life by looking at your scrapbook. Making a scrapbook with different themes is easy to organize especially if you use inexpensive supplies. Each page can be themed differently. In fact, you can save more time and money when you apply the same color on the background. Create a cover page in every event that you have visited to ensure that they will be kept safely.

Looking for catalogs for scrapboooking?

Looking for catalogs for scrapboooking?

When you input “scrapbooking” in a search engine, there are literally thousands of search results that will pop up, primarily because it has became a very popular hobby. A beginner looking for materials may have a hard time searching through the websites for possible tips on how to start creating a scrapbook. Fortunately, help is on the way.

There are several items that you need to purchase in order to start with your scrapbooking project. They are listed below:

1. Album
The album pages should be acid-free, PVC-free (polyvinyl chloride-free) and photo-safe. There are several types of albums.

The first one is the binder-type album which is a three-ring binder similar to a generic three-ring school binder, this type of album is expandable, so it will be easier to add more scrapbook pages as they are created. It is also convenient because pages can be moved without damaging the entire album or scrapbook page.

The second type is the post-bound album. A post-bound album has sheet protectors which you can take apart because they are bound by metal tubes.

The third type is the strap-hinge album. This type is also expandable but it only goes to certain extent. The album has plastic pockets to protect the pages, and is bound by wire loops.

2. Mounting Pages
Mounting pages are available in various designs and colors. Again, since mounting pages serve as a photograph’s support, it is important to make sure that they are acid-free, PVC-safe and photo-safe. Mounting pages usually come in two sizes, 8 1/2 X 11 and 12 X 12.

3. Mounting Supplies
You can use glue, phototape, or mounting corners to post photos. They need to be labelled “photo-safe” or “archival” so they won’t damage photos.

To mount newspaper clippings or brochures, you need to use an Archival or deacidification spray first prior to mounting to prevent the paper from yellowing.

4. Cutting Tools
Scissors are sold in many arts and craft stores, but there are special scrapbooking scissors you can purchase. Popular cutting tools used in scrapbooking are circle and oval cutters, paper trimmers to trim photos or to cut small decorations, and scrapbooking punches, available in various designs.

Other than the materials and tools mentioned, you can use other materials like stickers, cloth, dried flowers, leaves, twigs, or even rocks to create a unique scrapbook.

Ideas and tips towards Scrapbooking for free

Ideas and tips towards Scrapbooking for free

Scrapbooking may seem not an expensive hobby when compared to for instance golf, where in you have to buy a thousands worth of equipment or perhaps dancing, the lessons of which, can be really hard in the pockets; but that is where you are wrong. If you don’t watch it, scrapbooking can be even more expensive in the long run. This is because as you become more and more enmeshed with the hobby, you need updated tools and equipment.

What is scary though about scrapbooking is the fact that you can’t really watch out for your expenses because it is relatively small. You just end up paying more because of the quantity that you buy and the frequency that you buy the materials.

Still, if you really want to. You don?t have to shell out so much. Scrapbooking need not be expensive. Below are some tips and idea to help you scrapbook for free (or if not way below what you are spending now!).

Watch the tools

One of the things that make scrapbooking so expensive for most people is their constant need to have the updated version of every tool imaginable. Whatever is new in the market, die-hard scrapbookers buy them even if they already have something that performs almost the same functions.

It is important to remember that you don’t really have to buy great tools to create great scrapbooks. With even the oldest and out of date materials, you can still create memorable pages with just your creativity in tow.

Recycle and reuse

There are a lot of things in your home that you can use to add flavor and texture to your pages. You don’t have to, for instance, buy stickers for your scrapbook in craft stores. You can achieve the same look, maybe even a better look, if you cut out graphics in magazines and in old greeting cards. Stationeries are another great source of graphics that you can use.

Your old clothes can also be very useful. In fact, every inch of your old clothes can be used as decoration from the fabric to the zipper and the buttons. If you have an attic with a boxful of old clothes that you no longer wear, raid it and put those fabrics to good use. not only have you managed to rid the house of clutter, you have also put a lot of creative design into your scrapbook pages.

Make your own scrapbook

Most people who do their own scrapbooks buy prepared ones in craft stores and then decorate them with stuff. Prepared scrapbooks that are blank can really cost you a lot and this is unfortunate as most of these scrapbooks that are being sold can be easily done and completed in the home.

If you have the time, just make your own scrapbook. The cheapest way to go is of course to make your own paper through recycling. This however may take forever and may be really tedious to do.

Another way is to buy recycled papers or any kinds of paper in bookstores and compile them yourself by sewing the sides or gluing them together. This will be cheaper than buying an already-made set. What is more, you get to choose the design that you want and put some spin on the kind of scrapbook that you are doing.

Teaching kids to preserve memories through scrapbook

Teaching kids to preserve memories through scrapbook

Memories are always meant to be preserved because these will remind people of the good experiences they had in their life times. In order to preserve good memories and experiences, more and more parents encourage their children to create their own scrapbooks at such an early age so they can keep their childhood memories intact.

Indeed, scrapbooking is one of the most effective and enjoyable ways of keeping memories safe and fun to look at. By collecting and keeping bits and pieces of memories together, anybody can create and tell a story. For children, scrapbooking can be a learning experience because this can teach them the value of resourcefulness, creativity, patience, and perseverance.

GETTING STARTED

Scrapbooking is one enjoyable activity you can share with your kids. It can also be one of those activities they can share with their playmates and friends. But, before you get excited in starting to teach your kids the beauty of scrapbooking, there are some things you need to consider.

The first thing to consider in encouraging your kids to get into scrapbooking is their interest in the craft. If your child is one of those who are into arts and into collecting mementos to create another work of art. Then she or he is the perfect candidate for the activity because she/he already has the drive and the creativity to create another masterpiece.

But if your child is not yet interested with crafts and arts, it doesn?t mean he/she cannot indulge into scrapbooking. In fact, this is the perfect time to introduce him/her into a new world of exciting and enjoyable activity.

Aside from the interest of your child in crafts and arts, another thing you need to consider is the availability of space where your kids can do the activity. Since scrapbooking requires a lot of materials, you will need a space big enough for them to sprawl and to scatter the materials they will use for making the scrapbook. It is advisable that you provide a space where kids can do their scrapbook and a place where they can leave their stuff.

Next, you need to consider the amount of materials your child will need. Since you are about to teach him /her basic scrapbooking, you will need the materials which you can find in the four walls of your house. Here?s a quick list of the materials and supplies your kid needs: paper or scrapbook paper usually 12×12 in size, pens and colored pencils, photos, scrapbooking die-cuts and cut-outs, scrapbooking tools such as punchers, scissors, trimmers and rulers, stamps - rubber, clear and foam, adhesives and removers, stickers of different designs, color, and sizes, tags, different templates, totes and organizers, transparencies, albums and old scrapbooks, alphabets, books and scrapbooking magazines for scrapbook ideas, old cards, embellishments such as eyelets, brads, nails and tacks, colored and specialty papers, and scrapbook apparels such as scrapbook kits for starters.

Here are some cost saving tips for parents who wish to teach their children scrapbooking but don?t have the means to buy expensive scrapbooking supplies and materials:

1 Gather old pictures and let your kids scrap the photos you no longer need.

2. Whenever you go to the developing center, ask for the double prints and let your children experiment with the doubles.

3. After completing a specific project, make sure that you put the leftovers and unused scraps in a container so the kids can use it for another scrapbooking session.

4. Go over your old stuff and bring out the supplies you will no longer use.

5. Guide the kids in making scrapbooks so they will not consume supplies, time and effort in doing projects they cannot use.
